Hike a tiny slice of the famous Appalachian Trail! To access Lost Pond Trail, you must…carefully cross rt. 16 from the parking lot of the AMC Visitor Center in Pinkham Notch (361 NH-16, Gorham, NH) and take the foot bridge through the wetlands. Once you pass the wetlands, you will find the Lost Pond Trail sign and then follow the trail to the right.

There is so much diverse terrain on and surrounding this trail. From the wetlands in the beginning, followed by the winding river, then the rocky trek just passed the water lily filled pond that offers up some pretty spectacular views of Mount Washington and surrounding areas! And all this is easily accessed by those who possess hiking skills at most ability levels within approximately a 1 mile trek in and back out the way you came. However, you can continue on the trail far past the pond (maybe another 1/4 of a mile-ish) and eventually end up at a different location of the Ellis River. But no matter where you take the trail to, keep your eyes open for a variety of wildlife! Moose especially LOVE the wetlands across from the Visitor Center and the Lost Pond!

This is a great trek most any time of year, but if you’re not snowshoeing and it’s icy out, you’ll probably want to pick up some ice cleats to put over your hiking shoes!
