Mount Crag is listed as a moderate 2.5 loop trail in many articles, but I recommend the shorter version…by parking in the riverside (Austin MIll Brook) parking lot across the road from this…
If traveling from Gorham, NH on Rt. 2 to Shelburne, you will take a left on North Road and travel a few miles down before seeing the turnstile on your left and the parking lot on your right. Once you pass through the turnstile, it’s approximately a 10 minute walk on the Austin Brook trail until you see the small trail sign for “Mt Crag” on your left.
This hike is similar in ability and in distance to the Mt. Jasper one as you take this entry to the top and come back down the same way. You will most certainly want to explore the collection of “HUGE” boulders that you can’t miss along this trail and there are some pretty amazing views of the Presidential range at the top!
I would caution taking a dog on this hike, as the sign says hikers only at the turnstile, but hey, dogs are hikers too, no? In any event, should you bring a dog or your children, as always, please leave no trace by cleaning up after them.
